Giving the Homeless a Home
Help Us Give a Great Big Welcome the Casa View Way!

In the winter of 2010, Casa View welcomed 40 formerly homeless individuals to the Aspen Chase Apartment Complex. LifeNet is a non-profit organization that was chosen by Dallas Housing Authority to provide permanent supportive housing. DHA and LifeNet supply each of the individuals with an apartment, job opportunities, a mentor, as well as mental and physical clinic access. It is the goal of LifeNet to help individuals gain full rehabilitation and successful integration into society. Help the Greater Casa View Community in reaching LifeNet’s goal by providing furnishings and giving them a proper welcome to our neighborhood.

Keeping you up to date on our progress:

OUR FIRST MOVE-IN
Right before Thanksgiving, we moved six people into the Aspen Chase apartments and loaded them up with all sorts of the goodies that you’ve helped us collect! My sincerest thanks goes out to everyone who showed up to help us move on that day especially on such short notice! A special thanks goes out to Dick Benson, Tami Beck, Johnny Holcombe, David Jackson and Marie Blocher (and my apologies if I forgot anyone here!)! I am so blown away by the response to help move and how many of you jumped at the opportunity. We are so truly blessed to live this fantastic neighborhood where everyone is so willing to help each other out in a pinch. So, the move-in went great, and they couldn’t have been more grateful to have such a warm welcome to the neighborhood! I’ve included some pictures of the baskets, furniture, and awesome mover volunteers! We have since also moved in one additional client, and a special thanks to Justin Barina and Clay Buckley who helped get him all squared away the week of Thanksgiving!

OUR SECOND MOVE-IN
The week of Christmas, we moved six more folks into Aspen Chase, and it was a huge success! We had tons of volunteers from various neighborhoods including Lee Barron, Johnny Holcomb, and Susan MacFarland. Rev. Phil Webster helped us big time by renting a U-Haul, loading up all the furniture from our big Best Western donation (see below), and delivered to Aspen Chase. We had several of our volunteers, volunteers from LifeNet and volunteers from the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection there to help unload all the furniture and get these people into their new place. And they couldn't have been more appreciative. It was such a huge blessing to be able to serve these people in this way. I so look forward to our next move-in, and this really is the best part of the job!

********

We appreciate everyone who has helped donate, but I wanted to send a super special thanks out to some of our MAJOR donors thus far: Janie Hatzenbueler, Vikki Martin of FRI, Susan Walker of Good Samaritan Church, Mike Nurre & Betty Rice of Harry Stone Crime Watch, Shirley Loftin of Casa View Heights CW 1115, Ann Teague of Casa View Heights CW 1130, and Steffanie Evans. Again, my apologies if I left anyone off (or misspelled any names), but these guys have been super generous in their donations, and I’m just overwhelmed with gratitude for how amazing this community is! AND a HUGE HUGE thank you to Rev. Phil Webster of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection! Not only has he donated the space for us to store these items, but he has sacrificed time and energy into helping us collect items including our BIG Best Western donation! We truly could not do this without his valiant efforts!

Thanks so much for all your help thus far, as it’s been tremendous!!!

Sincerely,
Amanda Buckley, Lee Barron & Emily Anderson
